Positions needed:
2011 Board of Directors: Our unusual 2010 board includes mostly members whose children are ready to age out of the league -- or who have already aged out -- and one youth. To ensure our league's future, new blood with new ideas is needed. See Tom Blodgett for details.
Coaches: Coaches assist managers at practices and games. Attendance at a coaching clinic is encouraged. Managers choose coaches but the coaches must be appointed by the president and approved by the Board of Directors.
Team Parents: Teams parents assist in team functions such as photos, team party, team banner, snack schedule, etc.
Field Preparation: Field prep workers prepare the fields before games by raking and dragging it and chalking the lines. Each team usually has one or two, and the home team is responsible for that game's prep work, though visiting teams sometimes help.
Scorekeepers: Scorekeepers keep the book at games. They work with umpires to declare run rule on innings and games. The scorekeeper may keep pitch count or have someone who assists him or her with that function.
Umpires: Parents are used as umpires at T-Ball and Farm games. A basic knowledge of baseball rules is required. Those interested in umpiring Majors and Minors games should contact our league's umpire in chief, Darnell Calhoun. He may be reached through Tom Blodgett.
Opening day workers: League evaluations indicated many were disappointed in how little there was to do at the 2009 Opening Day. However, the size and scope was largely determined by how few volunteers stepped forward. To make for a better festival, please contact the league to help.
All volunteers must fill out a volunteer form, give a copy of their driver's license and pass a mandatory background check.
Our background checks are conducted through the Little League and Lexis Nexis' Choicepoint site. If your name matches a name in states where name-only searches are conducted, you will receive a letter about the match, but you will not be disqualified unless you prove to be the same person as the match and the reason for appearing is a disqualifying one.
