Volunteer Opportunities
Sponsorship volunteers – Contact businesses, groups and people who may be interested in sponsoring the league in some manner or advertising in RioBall season program. Gives information on costs and benefits.
Opening Day volunteers – Under the direction of the opening day coordinator, works a booth or activity for an allotted period of time.
Equipment Exchange volunteer – Helps collect equipment for the equipment exchange table at opening day and works the table at opening day.
Fundraising Chairman – Directs the league’s fund-raiser, which in the past has been the hit-a-thon at opening day.
Fundraising workers – Under the direction of the fundraising chairman, helps run the league fund-raiser. If it continues to be the hit-a-thon, this could be collecting pledges at the opening day tables or after the event.
Photo Day Coodinator – Confirms the photo company for opening day and coordinates the schedule with the hit-a-thon (or other fund-raiser). Assures packets get to the fields in a timely manner.
T-shirt Coordinator – Takes orders for league t-shirts, places the order with the t-shirt vendor and assures timely distribution of the shirts to the teams.
Diamondbacks Day Coordinator – Takes orders for tickets, collects money and assures timely distribution of tickets to the teams.
Field runners – Helps get fliers, photo packets, t-shirts, uniforms, D-Backs tickets, etc., to the teams at the league’s fields.
Juniors Coordinator – Acts as the liaison to Arizona District 13 for Rio’s Junior League teams, including working on schedules and fields.
Softball Coordinator – Acts as the liaison to Arizona District 13 for Rio’s softball players, including working on schedules and fields.
All-Star Coodinator – Under the direction of the board, helps coordinate distribution of ballots and selection of All-Stars and coordination of uniforms and practice schedules.
Uniform Coodinator – Takes sizes, places orders for teams and assures distribution of unforms to teams.
Fields Chief – May be combined with Equipment Chief. Makes sure field sheds are properly equipped, outfield foul lines are spray painted regularly, and chalk is regularly supplied to sheds.
RioBall editor – Helps assemble material for RioBall, lays out publication, delivers to and picks up from printer, assures distribution to fields.
Rio Report editor – Collects pitch count and lineup information from managers and distributes back to all majors and minors managers.
League Information Officer – Acts as webmaster for the league, updating the league web site with news and information. Also uses the league’s social media tools (facebook and twitter accounts).
Baseball manager – Runs a baseball team and teaches the players baseball skills in practices and games. Manages team in games. Additional training is encouraged and attendance at both manager’s clinic and meeting is mandatory.
Baseball coach – Assists the manager in the running of baseball teams at practices and game. May fill in for manager in his or her absence.
Softball manager – Runs a softball team and teaches the players softball skills in practices and games. Manages team in games. Additional training is encouraged and attendance at manager’s meeting is mandatory.
Softball coach – Assists the manager in the running of softball teams at practices and game. May fill in for manager in his or her absence.
Team mom – Assists the team manager with administrative issues and acts as a liaison with team parents. Coordinates snack schedule, team banner, team party, etc.
Scorekeeper – Keeps the scorebook for team and works with umpires when your team is home.
Scoreboard operator – Runs the scoreboard at Mantei and Gonzo when your team is playing at one of those fields.
Game of the Week coordinator – Publicizes events and helps run between-innings activities at Game of the Week.
Registration workers – Works table at registration events.
Clinics coordinator – Coordinates putting on skills clinics for players.
Coaching coordinator – Coordinates or puts on training clinic for managers, coaches.
Skills evaluation coordinator – Puts on the skill evaluations for players wishing to be in minors, majors or juniors.
Umpire in Chief – Recruits, trains and schedules umpires for league in majors and minors division. May also umpire.
Board positions
Secretary – Takes minutes at board and general membership meetings. Distributes and counts board ballots.
